"Going
Above and Beyond the Call of Duty to Help Our Veterans"
This year a new State
Program will be given, that of the “Outstanding Department
Chairman”. With the many experienced chairmen that the Department
of Texas has, it only seems right to recognize their work and
commitment. Texas is home to some of the most talented and inspiring
chairmen that go above and beyond what is required and now they will
be recognized for it.
The Department
President has set forth the requirements for this award and has
given the dutiful job of selecting a winner at the end of the year
to the two individuals that deal with the chairmen the most, the
program coordinator and the department secretary.
Following the
guidelines book and meeting all deadlines will play a very important
part in being considered for this award. As a Department chairman,
there are certain requirements and needs that must be fulfilled and
met throughout the year. There is so much more involved in being an
outstanding chairman other than just writing articles for Our Two
Cents. Having a thorough knowledge of the program, knowing how you
want your program to work, and what you want the auxiliaries to
achieve during the year is crucial to being a successful chairman.
If your own interest, excitement, and attitude are reflected in what
you do--- others will notice and follow suit.
Chairmen must be
confident and not afraid to step out and take risks. Listen to your
auxiliary sisters, to previous chairmen, and district presidents.
Get suggestions, ideas and input that can help you complete your
program goals and get others to do the same.
Have a good attitude,
smile, be friendly and try to answer phone calls, emails, questions
or concerns about a program in a timely manner. Work with your
district presidents on reporting of programs. Remember to work
diligently on deadlines as they are very important at all levels.
Always keep in mind
that your ultimate goal is 100% participation and completion of all
parts of your program by Auxiliaries. If your program is a National
chairmanship, you are responsible for sharing this information with
your National Directors. All Chairmen National and state will need
to send copies of promotional material etc… to Debbie and Barbara
(as stated in the guidelines book)
